The Future of Vital Signs Monitoring

Key Areas of Medical Need

VitalStream is a wireless patient monitoring platform. The platform’s ability to collect data from other BLE-capable devices, including weighing scales, glucose meters, insulin pumps and fall detectors means it can have broad sweeping clinical applications. Many different medical professionals can benefit from VitalStream, some include Personal Wellness, Sleep Studies, Veterinary Medicine, and Oral Surgery. However, we are initially focusing on three key medical areas:

1. Non-Invasive Haemodynamic Monitoring

On average, 30% of ICU patients, continuous blood pressure monitoring means an invasive arterial catheter. This is uncomfortable and have significant complication rates, including infection, occlusion, sepsis etc. (See diagram)

VitalStream’s low-cost, real-time, beat-by-beat BP and HR wireless patient monitoring is a tested solution which reduces risk, patient discomfort and dramatically reduces costs.

2. Remote Home Care “Telemedicine”

By 2018, there will be seven million telemedicine patients worldwide – a market worth $4.5billion (see diagram). Hospitals need to monitor patients after discharge to mitigate re-admission. The burgeoning adoption of digital tablets, connectivity and cloud data creates patients’ expectation for ongoing connectivity with their clinician. VitalStream is easy to send home with a patient to track and report their vital signs efficiently and securely.

3. Wireless “Connected Patient” Hospital Vital Sign Monitoring

The global market for vital sign monitors is $3.15billion, growing at 6.6% CAGR, yet it is still dominated by traditional monitors. With many hospitals ready to upgrade/replace traditional bedside monitors. Traditional monitors connect to central nurses’ stations but need to be wall or pole mounted and connect to the patient using wires, leads and hoses.

VitalStream wireless monitoring uses a simple finger cuff and wrist-mounted transmitter, allowing complete mobility and continuous monitoring as the patient moves between hospital departments. Studies into wireless patient monitoring confirm that it can reduce hospital costs and improve patient outcomes. VitalStream can reduce hospital liability by keeping patients monitored pre-admission, while waiting for a bed etc.
